Position Function:
Reporting to Recreation Manager, the Activity Worker is accountable for the aiding in the design, and coordination of person-centered care related to resident’s recreational and leisure wellbeing. The Activity Worker will endeavor to deliver scheduled programs and activities that align with the mission and values of the organization including the person-centered care philosophy related to the participants’ recreational and leisure well being
Qualifications:
• Completion of a Recreation Diploma/ Specialized Course, or related experience with a specialization in recreation/leisure/community development.
• Experience planning recreation programs & activities for adults in long term care settings.
• Preferred Certifications: First Aid/CPR, Behavioral Crisis Management Training (MANDT, NVCI), WHIMIS 2015, and Food Handlers Course
• Musical ability
• Experience in garden therapy or willingness to learn considered an asset.

• Leadership skills- Organization and planning skills, creative problem solver, good listening skills.
· Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a responsible manner, exercising mature judgment
This position requires some evening, weekend and holiday work depending on program functions. The ability to work in environments that may have plants and animals as well as working out of doors. Must be in good mental and physical health and able to bend, lift, and stretch as required for job performance. The MMCG provides services for adults who may have physical limitations, intellectual disabilities, mental health concerns or dementia who, from time to time when upset, may exhibit behaviors.
Must possess valid Nova Scotia driver's license, insurance as per policy of the organization, and be willing to transport clients using own vehicle. Willing to provide a driver’s abstract upon hire.
Salary is per CUPE Collective Agreement
